A landfill, also known as a dump (and historically as a midden), is a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and is the oldest form of waste treatment. For almost as long as humans have been generating rubbish, landfills have been the most common method of organized waste disposal and remains so in many places around the world.

The group's strategy has been the ensure that paper cups are only sent to a landfill when no other alternative is available or viable.

Paper cups are of a similar construction to many other consumer use materials, such as beverage cartons and food packaging, and we suggest that in many cases it makes sense and reduces transport requirements (cost, emissions and carbon footprint) if these materials are collected together.
